Peace Beyond Comprehension

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.  And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 4:6-7)

How familiar these words are.  We quote them all the time.  But I was struck this morning by the little phrase which describes the peace of God…”which surpasses all comprehension.”  I will never hope to understand God’s peace.  Honestly, it doesn’t make logical sense.  Why should we be at peace when things around us fall apart?  Why should our spirits rest in the face of adversity?  But somehow in God’s beautiful, mysterious way as we bring our needs to Him, He gives us peace.  I love that!  I love the fact that it’s too big for my mind.  I love the knowledge that only a supernatural factor can explain it.  I love that our great God cares enough about His children to defy their circumstances and infill them with His incomprehensible peace.  Counting on that peace today!
